A minor is offered in Global Peace and Security, offering students the opportunity of complementing their major in any other field with an interdisciplinary minor relating to contemporary international affairs and policy issues. Students also have the option of earning a certificate in Global Peace and Security Studies.

Minor-Global Peace and Security

All courses to be applied to the minor must be completed on a letter-grade basis.

Preparation for the minor. There are no required courses in preparation for the minor.

Upper-division minor. Twenty-four units, distributed as follows: Eight units selected from Interdisciplinary Studies 197A, 197B, and 197C (same as Sociology 138G); 4 units selected from Interdisciplinary Studies 140, 194GP, 196GP, or 199GP; and 12 units selected from Anthropology 104H, 130A-B (same as Environmental Studies 130A-B), 142, 185 (same as Environmental Studies 185 - Environmental Justice); Engineering 101; Environmental Studies 104 (same as Anthropology 104), 130A-B (same as Anthropology 130A-B), 124, 131, 185 (same as Anthropology 185); History 105, 106D, 135C, 180A-B-C; Political Science 127, 128, 136, 143, 150A, 176; Religious Studies 131H (same as Sociology 131H); Sociology 130A, 130LA, 130ME, 134, 134T, 166W.

Note: Substitutions and waivers are subject to approval by the chair of the department. Please see the section on Academic Minors for special conditions governing minors in the College of Letters and Science.

Certificate in Global Peace and Security

Students whose academic programs may preclude completion of the minor may instead complete the requirements for a certificate in Global Peace and Security. Information regarding the requirements for the certificate can be obtained from the program office.
